Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on Sunday after the team's ten-game without a victory start to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have previous associations to the club - are among the names to be evaluated by the club leadership.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the search of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a surprising choice given he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham United player is out of work which means the club would not need to pay any buyout fee.
